Dead Scared by S. J. Bolton brings back characters from two previous books, DC Lacey Flint and DI Mark Joesbury from Now You See Me and Dr. Evi Oliver and Rev. Harry Laycock from Blood Harvest. At the request of Dr. Oliver, Lacey Flint is sent undercover to Cambridge to see if she can discover any online group that is targeting vulnerable students and inciting them to commit suicide, as there has been a higher than statistically probable number of student suicides over the past five years at the university. Bolton has written a suspenseful page-turner, told from multiple points-of-view, interweaving first- and third-person narratives in rapid-fire succession that rachets up the tension, slipping in plenty of red herrings to keep the reader guessing. For those who have read the previous novels with these characters, Dead Scared satisfies the question of “What happened to them after?” Highly recommended for anyone who likes a complex puzzle and a book that you won’t want to put down.
Dead Scared will be published June 5, 2012
